Phoenix, AZ -- Arizona Right to Life remains strongly opposed to the recently-passed Health Bill, HR3590.  All lawmakers who voted in favor of this Bill stand accountable for any funds used to subsidize and administer health plans that will pay for elective abortions.  By voting in favor of this Bill those so-called "Pro-Life Democrats" showed their true colors and subordinated the interests of protecting life to that of party politics.

Because of the lack of transparency in the process, because of the late-night shenanigans and back-room deals, the American people will not know how much and for what amount these Democrats were paid for their vote.  But those of us in the Pro-Life Movement stand committed to ending abortion in our lifetime, to restoring the rule of law in our country, and to protecting women and children who are exploited by the abortion profiteers.

Arizona Right to Life re-commits itself to informing the populace and the electorate that no law is worth the paper it's printed on unless it respects and defends the inherent dignity of the human person.

Arizona Right to Life Vice President John J. Jakubczyk had this statement:

"The sell-out by Bart Stupak and other so-called 'Pro-Life Democrats' represents another black day in the tragic and troubled history of abortion in America.  The paltry excuse of a promise by the most pro-abortion President in history apparently was enough for Stupak and other Democrats to vote in favor of the Senate Bill.  For whatever reason, they ignored the very solid legal analysis explaining why this Bill opens the door to direct Federal funding of abortion in community health centers, why it does not address the rights of conscience, and why it presents a real danger for government rationing of health-related services.

"We have often said that this Bill and the efforts by the Democrats in the House and Senate were to expand abortion coverage.  The House leadership blatantly lied to the American people when they said it was not about increasing abortion coverage.  The President lied to the American people when he said it was not about increasing abortion coverage.  And yet, this Bill will open the door to increased government spending for abortion.

"We are very disappointed, in fact disgusted, with the actions this weekend.  This weekend's activities mark the third time that the Congress has interfered with the normal lives of working Americans to meet on a Sunday in order to pass something that offends the majority of Americans today.  Arizona Right to Life re-commits itself to supporting only those candidates who stand up to defend life.  We encourage all those of good will, who believe in respecting the rights of women and children, born and unborn, to join with us and get involved in ending this scourge in our land."
