Carl Cameron from Fox News: "McCain's Last Stand"
McCain is unique as the principal GOP sponsor of immigration reform with Ted Kennedy; if Hayworth hits that message right, the August primary could be McCain’s last race.
Some excerpts -
After four terms in the U.S. Senate, a presidential campaign in 2000, capped by the GOP nomination in 2008, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., faces a serious challenge from J.D. Hayworth a former sportscaster turned six-term firebrand congressman from the Hill class of 94’, to conservative radio talk show host.
But as pollster Scott Ramussen notes McCain is hovering around 50 points - dangerous territory for an incumbent, particularly in a “throw the bums out” cycle.
Of all the Republicans in Congress, not one has more immigration baggage than McCain.
By 2007, John McCain, and none other than the late “Liberal Lion” of the Senate, Ted Kennedy, had co-authored the legislation and twice fought ceaselessly to get it to the Senate floor. Critics dubbed the bill amnesty and after a long bitter debate the measure was ultimately killed.
The fight and fallout left McCain so unpopular among conservatives and the GOP that it nearly killed his 2008 presidential bid. Ever since, McCain has accepted that politically border security must come before anything else. He is currently pushing a measure in the Senate for more National Guard troops on the border and is running an ad with a clearly staged law enforcement stroll called “Complete the Danged Fence.”
J.D. Hayworth has a response ad that encapsulates the hit on McCain in 30 seconds. Starting with file footage of McCain boasting about his comprehensive immigration bill.
Hayworth’s ad asks if voters have had enough of McCain. Some have.
McCain built a career by breaking ranks with his party, often compromising with liberals and infuriating the GOP. Despite being the GOP’s presidential standard bearer just two years ago, there is no shortage of frustration and sour memories among Arizona conservatives.
McCain is also unique as the principal GOP sponsor of immigration reform with Ted Kennedy; if Hayworth hits that message right, the August primary could be McCain’s last race.

McCain at Los Suns game instead of Stand With Arizona rally
Revealing video put together by Arizona Tea Partiers....featuring numerous photos of attendees bearing signs saying "Standing With Arizona - Diablo Stadium - 5/29 - Where is John McCain?" Telling that his priorities were watching a Suns game (and we all know that the Suns owner had his team wear shirts saying "Los Suns" as a protest of SB1070). 5,000-7,000 Americans from outside Arizona traveled to Arizona for this rally - yet McCain avoided it.

Video of JD Hayworth on Meet the Press
JD debated Rep. Gutierrez on Meet the Press Sunday morning. Gutierrez pretty much discredited himself when MSNBC played a video clip of him being arrested outside the White House for protesting against Obama on illegal immigration. Are you kidding me? The most liberal president we've ever had and you get arrested for protesting him on illegal immigration? This is not like civil disobedience in the days of Martin Luther King, Jr., where blacks subjected to discrimination. Illegal immigration pits Hispanics who legally entered the country against Hispanics who broke the law by illegally entering the country, it is not about racism.

Politico on McCain: What's that smell? The worst campaigns of 2010
Some excerpts -
But in his desperate bid to hang onto his Senate seat, McCain has already lost something -- his well-cultivated image as a different kind of politician who dared to take on his party and speak difficult truths.
Racing to get to the right, he has unapologetically discarded any stance which may be unhelpful in a conservative-dominated primary, most notably his leadership on immigration reform and climate change. In the not-too-distant past he spoke passionately about both issues as matters of conscience, to hell with the political consequences.
But it's not just the issues, per se, it's the lengths McCain is going to shed his former political skin that have some of his former advisers shaking their heads about what he's doing to get six more years in Washington. With no hint of the irony he was once known for, and apparent amnesia about the White House campaign he waged two years ago, he said he never actually considered himself "a maverick." And after openly mocking conservatives who were obsessed with simply building more fences on the border -- "I think the fence is least effective. But I'll build the goddamned fence if they want it" -- he's now airing an ad in which he's seen walking along said fence and promising to "complete the danged fence."

JD HAYWORTH ON MEET THE PRESS SUNDAY
Note - this is at 11am on MSNBC (channel 63) for those of you in Phoenix with Cox Cable.

Scottsdale Tea Party hosts first GOP primary debate for Attorney General: Andrew Thomas v. Tom Horne
This promises to be a lively debate! On the one hand, you have Andrew Thomas, a true conservative who has been endorsed by numerous law enforcement agencies and officials. On the other hand you have Tom Horne, a liberal Republican who switched parties to run for state legislature, then proceeded to vote against the Second Amendment and prolife legislation.
Schweikert one of few candidates abiding by sign laws
Kudos to David Schweikert for foregoing the choicest campaign sign locations and following the law instead. Says a lot about a candidate's character, whether they decide to ignore the laws and put up signs anywhere, or adhere to the law. Would you want a candidate in office who ignores the law?
Some excerpts from a Republic article -
All across Scottsdale, you can see the names of people who want to write laws for the rest of us to follow.
The names adorn campaign signs, a significant portion of which violate city law. Gotta love the irony.
Schweikert said he has one volunteer who does nothing but move signs that have been put in the wrong spots.
He knows he'll lose votes by putting signs in certain places, such as along scenic corridors in north Scottsdale. Schweikert said he received an e-mail complaining about other candidates who put signs there.
Those corridors are public right of way. They are prettier, but legally they're no different than the corner of Hayden and Shea. It makes no sense why any campaign would put a sign in a spot where a city inspector is likely to remove it — unless you're counting on inspectors being overwhelmed.
"The ugly reality is people who pay attention to signs are those who pay attention to politics," Schweikert said. "For the average voter, they're visual clutter."
It also gives voters more information. If a candidate cannot find private property owners willing to allow a sign, while another candidate can get permission to place hundreds of signs on private property, that says something.
People hired by the Jim Ward, Barbara Leff, John Munger and Michael Blaire campaigns to handle their signs didn't return repeated phone calls.

Barbeque rally with JD Hayworth to unseat John McCain June 5th

Who is dumber, JD Hayworth or McCain?
The McCain campaign has been making assertions that JD Hayworth isn't very smart, based on 1) one typo in a press release misspelling McCain's name, and 2) JD explaining in a speech that the U.S. didn't need to proactively "declare war" on Germany, since we were already at war with Germany (so Roosevelt instructed Congress to "recognize" a state of war). The McCain spin machine doesn't apparently understand this nuanced difference. Hayworth, a history buff, finds it fascinating which is why he brought it up.
In reality, McCain graduated 894th in his navy class of 899 at the US Naval Academy, barely passing. Hayworth graduated cum laude from North Carolina State University with a double major in Political Science and Speech-Communication.
McCain makes incoherent and incorrect statements so frequently that videos have been made compiling them. (H/T Sonoran Alliance) You decide who is dumber.

Shameful McCain Web Ad Blasted by Hayworth Campaign
Phoenix, AZ (May 25) – U.S. Senate J.D. Hayworth spokesman’s Mark Sanders said, in response to the McCain web ad, regarding Congressman Hayworth’s statement:
“It was a mistake that the McCain camp is trying to shamelessly use to distract voters from the real issues. They may believe it is clever and cute to show war footage including cannon firing and the Third Reich’s war machine. But it’s not and it is politics at its worst, which is what we have come to expect from John McCain.
“As we approach Memorial Day, we honor the men and women of the Greatest Generation for their service. McCain uses them as a political tool.
“The real question is not who misspoke about an event nearly seventy years ago, but who has the faulty memory about events happening today. Sen. McCain sponsored the amnesty bill and now wants to build the ‘danged fence’; he voted against the tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 and now says they should be extended; and he wrote the ‘Cap and Trade’ Bill in the last Congress and now does not even acknowledge it.
“John McCain needs to drag his campaign out of the mud, stand up before the voters, and debate Congressman Hayworth and let the people decide.”

Bogus attacks by McCain campaign on JD Hayworth about his knowledge of WWII and war against Germany
James Kelley has the full story here. The McCain campaign doesn't understand the difference between "declaring" a war v. "recognizing" a war that has already been started. Rather embarrassing that they issued a press release demonstrating this ignorance.
Former Arizona Attorney General Bob Corbin Endorses Andrew Thomas For Arizona’s Next AG
PHOENIX, ARIZONA MAY 25, 2010. He served three terms as Arizona Attorney General. He was the President of the National Rifle Association. And he is now endorsing Andrew Thomas to be the next Arizona Attorney General.
“I have followed Andrew’s career from early on and he has always impressed me with his toughness and integrity in enforcing the law,” Bob Corbin said. “I’m a firm believer that the law is the law and I know Andrew will do the job that is needed to be an effective Attorney General for Arizona.”
Thomas has also been endorsed by other notable Arizona law enforcement leaders including Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Yavapai County Sheriff Steve Waugh, Mohave County Attorney Matthew Smith, Mohave County Sheriff Tom Sheahan, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever and the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association (PLEA). Arizona Right to Life has endorsed Thomas as well.
During Thomas' time in office, crime rates plummeted. The 19 percent drop is more than twice the national rate of decline, in despite of an 11 percent increase in the county's population during that time. The illegal immigrant population has dropped by anywhere from 18 percent (Dept. of Homeland Security estimate) to 30 percent (Center for Immigration Studies estimate). Like the fall in crime rates, this dramatic decline in illegal immigration is far greater than the average in the rest of the nation.
Thomas has a track record of successfully defending illegal immigration crackdowns in our courts, including his successful efforts to prosecute illegal immigrants for conspiring to violate the state's human-smuggling law and to defend Prop 200's voter ID requirements and the employer-sanctions law, which he defended along with the Attorney General's Office.
If elected Attorney General Thomas has pledged to expand that office's prosecutions of illegal immigrants under the state's human smuggling laws. The office is not currently pursuing such prosecutions.
Thomas is married with four children. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School. Prior to serving as Maricopa County Attorney, Thomas served as an assistant attorney general for Arizona, deputy counsel and criminal justice policy advisor to the Governor, special assistant to the Director of the Arizona Department of Corrections, and a deputy county attorney.
To schedule an interview please contact Jason Rose. For more information about Andrew Thomas, please go to www.ThomasforArizona.com.
