Will debate AZ Dem Chair Andrei Cherny Sunday about the debt ceiling
I will be debating Arizona Democratic Party chairman Andrei Cherny Sunday morning at 11:00-11:30am on the Independent American radio show on KFNX. An article I wrote on the debt ceiling dilemma is here, called Democrats Faking Debt Ceiling Crisis in Order to Continue Irresponsible Spending. Cherny wants to tax airplanes, which would hurt the aviation business in Arizona. Tune in to KFNX here to listen online, or listen in Phoenix to 1100 AM.

AFP/Goldwater Institute: Milton Friedman birthday party Friday
This Friday, July 29, the Arizona chapter of Americans for Prosperity Foundation will celebrate the achievements of Dr. Milton Friedman, as part of a national day of recognition for the Nobel laureate economist, his work, his theories, and his contributions to political change. The Friedman Legacy for Freedom Day, sponsored by the Foundation for Educational Choice and the Milton and Rose D. Friedman Foundation, is being celebrated at 87 events in 46 States and six countries.
The AFPF-Arizona birthday party will take place on July 29 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Goldwater Institute in Phoenix. The free event (what Milton would call an "unpriced" event) will feature light beverages and hors d'oeuvres. (More event details and RSVP info are pasted below.) We will read the top-rated essays that were submitted as part of our recent Milton Friedman Legacy for Freedom essay contest, and we will also explore how Dr. Friedman and his free-market theories have benefited mankind and how those theories can move our country forward amidst current economic uncertainty.
About Dr. Milton Friedman
July 29 will be the 99th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Friedman, who passed away in November 2006. He is widely regarded as one of the world's most influential promoters of economic freedom. He argued that the voluntary choices of individuals, not the dictates of government, should be the default mode of human life. His revolutionary work in economic theory earned him the Nobel Prize in 1976.
Although he typically is recognized for his economic contributions, Dr. Friedman spent the last decade of his life fighting to bring educational freedom to all of America's children. In 1996, he and his wife Rose founded the Foundation for Educational Choice to promote his vision for universal school choice-an idea he first proposed in 1955.

AZGOP: CHERNY SUPPORTS OBAMA; FAILS ARIZONA WORKERS
President Obama proposed increasing taxes for corporate jet owners last
Saturday. The current tax law allows owners of jets to write off the
depreciation over the course of seven years. Obama wants to shorten that
time to five years in spite of the fact that he lobbied for the current law
in his 2009 stimulus package.
And what is the position of the Arizona Democratic Party Chairman Andrei
Cherny? In a recent East Valley Tribune article, Cherny was quoted as
saying, “. . . ask people who are getting a tax loophole to pay for
corporate jets to sacrifice.” In total, general aviation (GA) dumps over
2.77B dollars into Arizona every year, including $855.6M in payroll. Maybe
Cherny is okay with cutting manufacturing industry jobs in Arizona, but we
are not.
According to General Aviation Manufacturing Association (GAMA), Arizona is
currently home to 13,368 GA jobs, 314 civil use landing facilities, 6,896
active aircraft, 20,585 pilots, and 148 repair stations. Many of these
companies that include AmSafe Aviation, FlightSafety International,
Honeywell Aerospace, Parker Aerospace, and Universal Avionics are located in
Arizona.
Baffled by Obama’s attacks on the general aviation industry, Katie Pribyl,
Director of Communications for GAMA said, “U.S. general aviation
manufacturing industry contributes $150B to the economy each year, and
supports 1.2 million jobs.”
The word “manufacturing” is significant. Time and again, President Obama has
said manufacturing jobs must be part of our recovery. However his policies
amount to a punch in the stomach for manufacturing, as well as employers
across the labor market. In the last week Cisco, Lockheed Martin and
Borders have announced layoffs totaling over 28,000 workers.
Obama’s proposal has a lot of people saying “déjà vu”. Those old enough to
remember the Luxury Yacht Tax of the 1990’s can see history repeating
itself. In a failed effort to raise revenues, the government imposed a
Luxury Tax of 10% on watercraft priced over $100,000. The result? Billions
of dollars in lost sales, tens of thousands of lost jobs, and LOWER
REVENUES!
Unfortunately, this is just another example of close minded tax-and-spend
liberals believing the only solution to our fiscal crisis is to take money
from the rich and give it to the poor. In reality, increasing corporate tax
liability hurts everyone in the industry, including mechanics, engineers,
pilots, suppliers, ground crews, repair stations, and instructors…not just
the corporation itself.
It’s time the Democrats learn from the past, and avoid making the same
mistakes because America cannot afford more job losses.

Matt Salmon holds 30-point lead in race for Arizona's 6th Congressional District
Salmon Holds Commanding 30 Point Lead
Opponents in Dead Heat for 2nd Place Among Likely Primary Voters
EAST VALLEY – Former Congressman and candidate for Arizona’s 6th Congressional District Matt Salmon today announced his campaign to return to Congress holds a commanding early lead in the race for the Republican nomination. In a recent survey conducted by top Arizona polling firm, Arizona Opinion, Salmon received a 30 point advantage over his closest competitor:
If the Republican primary election to choose a candidate to represent this area in the U.S. House were held today, for whom would you vote? [Rotate] Matt Salmon, Kirk Adams, OR Chuck Gray?
38.3% Matt Salmon
8.3% Kirk Adams
6.5% Chuck Gray
47.0% Undecided, Refused
8.3% Kirk Adams
6.5% Chuck Gray
47.0% Undecided, Refused
The scientific survey (attached) of 400 likely primary voters in the current Congressional District 6 was conducted over July 18-19. Nearly 92% of those surveyed said they were certain to vote in next year’s primary election.
Dr. Margaret Kenski, President of Arizona Opinion, stated, "Certainly this poll indicates that Matt Salmon begins his campaign with a significant advantage over his opponents. Salmon is in a strong position to earn the support among those who remain undecided and increase his lead towards the all-important 50 percent level."
"As I continue to meet with people throughout the community, I have been humbled by the overwhelmingly strong support my campaign has received," said Matt Salmon. "The results of this survey reflect what I have been seeing and hearing every day. There is still much more work to be done, but it is clear that we need to change the direction that our country is headed by sending the most experienced and principled leaders back to Congress. I look forward to sharing more about my track record of reducing spending, balancing the budget, and fighting for conservative values."

AZGOP Chairman Tom Morrissey speaks on the investigation into the IRC by the Attorney General
"I applaud the action taken today by Attorney General Horne to investigate the actions of the Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC) for their outlandish action to award a contract to Strategic Telemetry for mapping consultant services. The unprecedented action by the IRC flies in the face of our state laws on many counts. History clearly demonstrates the undeniable fact that this company is neither independent nor non-partisan. Since this process will determine the electoral lines for the next ten years, the voters of this state MUST be assured that the redistricting process is fair and balanced. In addition, there are two other firms that submitted proposals to provide the expertise for the mapping services - including the company that provided that service ten years ago with no missteps and an Arizona company with a wide-ranging expertise in Arizona communities of interest. The price tag for theproposals from these two companies, COMBINED was about the same as the proposal inappropriately approved by the IRC. Arizona taxpayers expect - no, DEMAND, better judgment from this commission. If the Independent Redistricting Commission cannot take the first step in this process in a legal and ethical manner, Arizonans across the political spectrum will have no faith in the final redistricting plan. Republicans, Independents, Democrats and Libertarians deserve better, and I strongly support the actions of the Attorney General to protect all the citizens of our great state."

Big First Day for Border Fence Donation Website
Arizona State Senate
1700 W. Washington St., Phoenix , AZ 85007
Senator Steve Smith , R-23
602-926-5685
PRESS RELEASE
People from all 50 states offer financial support
(State Capitol, Phoenix ) – The totals are in from the first day of donations to help build a fence along the Arizona-Mexico border. More than $58,000 poured in to www.buildtheborderfence.com from 1,265 donors in just the first 24 hours.
“The Federal Government has made it abundantly clear that it has no interest in addressing the invasion of drug cartels, violent gangs, illegal aliens and terrorists along the border. The U.S. wants this problem addressed, and this is one way we’re doing it,” says Sen. Steve Smith , a Republican from Maricopa. Smith sponsored SB 1406, legislation that established a website for the purpose of raising private money to help build a border fence.
The border remains porous, and Arizona is taking one step toward true border security. From California to Texas , the southern border is approximately 2,000 miles, and only roughly 685 miles is fenced. The remaining 1300+ miles of the border have no fencing at all.
All the funds raised at www.buildtheborderfence.com are held in a trust fund account in the Arizona State Treasurer’s Office. The Joint Border Security Advisory Committee, established in the bill, will oversee the project.
Every state in the union was represented on the first day of donations, and that does not surprise Sen. Smith.
“We have always said with illegal immigration, ‘what happens in Arizona doesn’t stay in Arizona ’. This is a crisis for the nation, and it is gratifying to know that all 50 states agree,” says Sen. Smith.

CAP: New Laws Make Arizona a Better Place for Families
PHOENIX – Sixteen Center for Arizona Policy (CAP)-supported bills became law today that promote and defend life, marriage and family, and religious liberty.
Some key bills taking effect include:
- House Bill 2416 – While Arizona’s largest abortion retailer, Planned Parenthood, has challenged portions of this bill in court, several key provisions will be taking effect.
These provisions will ensure all women will have the opportunity to have and view an ultrasound before an abortion and ban abortion-via-webcam, known as telemedicine abortion. Arizona is the first state in the country to ban telemedicine abortions. http://bit.ly/nKSRpS - Senate Bill 1553 – Establishes “Empowerment Scholarship Accounts” that provide parents of children with special needs the opportunity to direct state funds for the education and educational services that best meet their children’s needs. Again, Arizona leads the nation with this first-of-its-kind school choice program. http://bit.ly/n7g4e4
- House Bill 2411 – Strengthens Arizona law to require harsher punishment for predators who engage in child prostitution. http://bit.ly/rtU54n
- Senate Bill 1472 & 1482 – Voters will now have more information about judicial candidates up for retention. The Secretary of State’s website will now include a judge’s biography, specific rulings on constitutional issues, and links to all opinions. http://bit.ly/pT9sXI
- House Bill 2565 – Protects freedom of religion and freedom of speech for university students and university student groups. http://bit.ly/nFsnlg
“This has been one of the most successful legislative sessions for advancing foundational values in public policy,” said CAP Legal Counsel Deborah Sheasby who drafted much of this legislation. “These new laws will have a resounding positive impact for Arizonans for years to come.”
With these sixteen bills, 101 CAP-supported bills will have been enacted into law since 1995.

The New Battleground of Child Custody Reform: Shared Parenting
It is 2011. The laws still have not changed much in regards to child custody and child support, even though women now work outside of the home and can make as much money as men. 84% of custodial parents are mothers, a figure that has not changed since 1983. A lot of problems will go away if the default is changed to 50/50 custody.

Governor Brewer: Defend Arizona - Support an American Patriot, Sen. Russell Pearce
Dear Friend, In my 28 years of public service, I have always fought for conservative principles by standing up to Democrats, media bias, Nancy Pelosi, Al Sharpton, and everyone else in Washington who think they know what is best for Arizona. I'm writing today because I need your help! The very same organizations and individuals who organized boycotts of Arizona, who opposed me in my last election, and who have consistently been advocates for unsustainable government spending are at it again. This time they mean to recall from office my friend and colleague State Senate President Russell Pearce. I have known Russell for over two decades; a dedicated law enforcement officer, shot in the line of duty, a fiscal conservative who has consistently been a voice and a vote for decreased government spending, an uncompromising advocate for State's Rights and now a national leader in our fight to enforce our nation's immigration laws and to secure our border. His unwavering dedication to enforcing the rule of law will help save our country from an Obama administration dedicated to undermining our nation's immigration laws. Until the rule of law is established on both sides of the Arizona-Mexico border there will be no peace, no future economic opportunity and no hope or resolving these issues undermining Arizona's continued economic prosperity. Will you stand with me today and help stop their efforts? For decades, the federal government has failed to do its job. It has failed to protect us from drugs, gangs and crime coming across the border. Senator Pearce has an unparalleled track record of passing legislation to help Arizona do the job that the Federal Government refuses to do. Here is just a small sample of legislation he has sponsored, that I have signed which has provoked this very recall: 2010, 49th Legislature, Second Regular Session
2011, 50th Legislature, First Regular Session
Once again, it is time to take a stand against those who boycott and hurt our state! We need leaders who believe in securing our border and protecting our citizens. Russell Pearce is that man, and we need keep him on our team. We need to defend Russell Pearce, but we can only do it with your help! Please click here to help me support an American patriot by sharing your generous donation. Thank you in advance for your support. Sincerely, Governor Jan Brewer PS. Please donate to Defend Russell Pearce today! You can also visit http://www.protectanamericanpatriot.com for more information or to donate online. |
