Politico has an article about the incumbent Senators who are being voted out across the country, and lists McCain as one of the top two who may be next. Some excerpts -
With two incumbent senators already defeated and a third, Arkansas Democrat Blanche Lincoln, pushed to the brink Tuesday, a question is making the Washington rounds: Who’s next?
The answer, if there is one, is likely to come from a handful of Western primaries at summer’s end that could further shake up a Senate chamber already unnerved by the defeats of two longtime incumbents, Sen. Robert Bennett (R-Utah) and Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.).
Even if Lincoln’s death-defying escape has them breathing a bit easier, two targets stand atop the list —Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). A third wild-card race would be the Alaska seat held by GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski.
McCain, is feeling the pressure from former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, who is attempting to harness the restless energy of the right flank of his party for use against the 2008 GOP presidential nominee.
