"CENTURY MARK OF SHAME":
McCAIN HITS THE 100 DAY MARK DODGING HAYWORTH'S CHALLENGE TO DEBATE
Phoenix, AZ (June 5) - U.S. Senate Candidate J.D. Hayworth today said it has been 100 days since he challenged Sen. John McCain to a debate.
"It's been 100 days of ducking and dodging and making excuses not to face me in a debate" Hayworth said. "I've proposed a series of debates here in Arizona and have even offered to travel to Sen. McCain's beloved Washington, D.C. if he will square off with me."
Though McCain has been regularly questioned about debates by people who attend his own town hall meetings, he refuses to agree to debate.
First, he said he would not debate until after the deadline for submitting signatures to be placed on the ballot had passed. Then he pushed the date back farther, saying he would not debate until the signatures were certified. The next deadline was after the date on which candidates signatures could be challenged.
Now he says he is so busy in Washington he just does not know when he'll have time to debate.
"I find it impossible to believe that during the past 100 days - a little over three months - Sen. McCain could not find even one evening to stand before the voters and defend his record and explain his vision for Arizona's future.
"Instead of having an honest discussion with the people of Arizona, he is relying on his misleading television and radio ads to do his dirty work," Hayworth said. "I think this state deserves better."
