"WITH FRIENDS LIKE THESE . . ."
McCAIN'S REAL POSITION IS CLEAR - PRO-AMNESTY |
Phoenix, AZ (JUNE &) -A senior campaign advisor and long-time friend of Sen. John McCain today joined other "friends" of the Senator in criticizing Arizona's crackdown on illegal aliens.
Grant Woods, the former Arizona attorney general and long-time McCain confidant, is quoted in The Washington Post today saying: "There are some states that are pretty much lily-white. That's not our state," Woods said. "To be an Arizonan is to be a part of Mexico."
He also said he is counting on "intelligent, compassionate people from all sides" to find a compromise on the new Arizona law.
Woods and McCain have a relationship that spans their political careers and were once described as "the Batman and Robin of Arizona politics."
He joins other McCain fans in criticizing the law, which U.S. Senate Candidate J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) has fully embraced.
Last week, Presidential press secretary Robert Gibbs said the White House needed the amnesty-loving John McCain back in Washington.
Sen. Chuck Schumer recently said McCain was his mentor when it came to proposing a new comprehensive immigration reform bill.
"Grant Woods, Robert Gibbs, Sen. Chuck Schumer and McCain - all soft on border control except McCain is trying to hide it with a campaign-year conversion," said Hayworth spokesman Mark Sanders. "With friends like these, why is McCain even trying to remake himself on the illegal alien issue? These latest pro-amnesty apologists want the real John McCain back in office," Sanders said. |
