AFP to protest Rep. Mitchell over healthcare on Tuesday

The battle for health care freedom is not over until WE WIN.

(Scroll down for the URGENT ACTION ITEM.)

With the health care “reform” bills in House-Senate reconciliation, we have a short window to put pressure on wavering members of Congress. Remember: Nancy Pelosi’s House bill passed by only three votes—with a five-vote difference between yes votes and no votes!

Our first target is Congressman Harry Mitchell. In November, Mitchell did vote for HR 3962, Pelosi’s national health care bill. And that was a big mistake on his part. But Mitchell did NOT vote for the CORRUPT payoffs in Harry Reid’s Senate bill.

Mitchell (so far) has a decent reputation as a public official who does not aid and abet corruption. We need to remind Mitchell how completely disgusted the public is with Ben Nelson’s “Cornhusker Kickback,” Mary Landrieu’s “Louisiana Purchase,” and the many other sweetheart deals used to scrounge up the final votes for Reid’s Senate bill.

For a summary of the corrupt payoffs, see Phil Kerpen’s column titled “Pork Barrel Politics at Their Worst”:

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2009/12/21/phil-kerpen-senate-health-care-pork/

Here’s the Big Question for Harry Mitchell: If these health care “reforms” are so good, why did so many Senators have to be bought off?

Mitchell also has a couple of weeks to think again about the dozens of heinous elements in the House bill he voted for--elements that will (barring some miracle) end up in the final House-Senate reconciliation bill:

Prison terms and/or gigantic fines for individuals who do not obey the federal government’s mandate to sign up for one of the (expensive) federally approved health insurance plans and do not pay the resulting tax penalty.

Federal government takeover of health insurance.

Severely limited insurance choices for families and businesses.

The abolition of low-premium, high-deductible plans like HSAs.

Skyrocketing insurance premiums.

Ballooning federal deficits and huge tax increases…

…followed by price ceilings that will lead to shortages of medical services…

…which means government rationing of health care.

URGENT ACTION ITEM

This coming Tuesday morning, January 5, from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m., the Arizona chapter of Americans for Prosperity and the Scottsdale Tea Party will deploy a gigantic sign near Shea Blvd and the 101, in full view of rush-hour traffic on the freeway. In very large letters, the sign says:

HONK to STOP Washington DC’s

corrupt takeover of our health care!

We will need a dozen people to hold the sign, but we expect many more to show up, so we can take turns taking YouTube videos (and audio!) of the honking cars, most of whom will belong to Mitchell’s constituents.

We will meet at 7:00 am in the parking lot for the Barnes and Noble on the Southeast corner of Shea and 101. We will then move to a nearby location to deploy the sign. Please wear cold-weather clothing and bring your walking shoes. And please bring a friend with you. Feel free to bring your own Tea Party sign(s), in case we have a large number of activists.

The address for the Barnes and Noble is 10500 N. 90th Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85258.

Location info: http://store-locator.barnesandnoble.com/store/2680

(Afterwards, we can warm up with some coffee at B&N!)

PLEASE RSVP (tjenney@afphq.org) TO LET ME KNOW IF YOU’RE JOINING US!

If you cannot make it on Tuesday morning, please keep the pressure on Harry Mitchell by calling him at his offices. His Scottsdale number is (480) 946-2411. His DC number is (202) 225-2190.

Harry Mitchell’s Congressional contact page is here:
