PHOENIX, Ariz – January 8, 2010 – It’s an annual event: Arizona’s Governor addresses both houses of the Arizona Legislature and delivers a report on the condition of the state. The reaction to this year’s State of the State will be different, though.
Paradise Valley Mayor and potential gubernatorial candidate Vernon Parker will provide live commentary via his twitter account, @Parker4Gov. Governor Brewer will speak at 1:30pm Monday.
“I will be fair in my commentary,” said Parker. “But don’t be surprised if you see a legislator or two looking at their blackberry during her speech and smiling or nodding. I will take the Governor to task when necessary - probably when she mentions her tax increase.”
Like the Republican leadership of the Legislature, Parker wants to cut taxes to create jobs in Arizona.
Parker served as Special Assistant to President George H.W. Bush, is a former Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, spent two years as interim pastor of his church and now serves as the mayor of Paradise Valley – receiving the most votes of anyone elected to the town’s council.
Having come from humble roots in a violent neighborhood in Long Beach, California, Parker went onto Georgetown Law Center after earning a degree in finance. He met his wife, Lisa, a second-generation Arizonan, while at Georgetown.
