McCain Drain On Taxpayers: 2007 Amnesty Plan Would Have Cost Taxpayers $2.6 Trillion (Source: Heritage Foundation)

PHOENIX, AZ.  JANUARY 26, 2010.  Sen. John McCain has been attacking his conservative challenger on spending.

Yet,  Hayworth actually has a better lifetime score from Citizens Against Government Waste, "America's #1 Taxpayer Watchdog." (Hayworth:89% / McCain:88%).

And the McCain camp has apparently forgotten about his 2007 amnesty plan for illegal immigrants that would have had a long-term cost of $2.6 trillion for U.S. taxpayers, according to the Heritage Foundation (http://www.heritage.org/research/Immigration/wm1490.cfm).

Furthermore, Senator McCain voted for the massive bank bailout bill in 2008, which was full of earmarks.  And during his presidential run he proposed spending $300 billion to buy up every bad mortgage in America, again bailing out banks and borrowers.

Closer to home, Senator McCain has supported taxpayer expenditures of over half a billion dollars for sports stadiums.

“While we all respect Senator McCain’s service to his country, these difficult times call for a reliable conservative we can count on to stand up to Harry Reid and President Obama's plans that would further damage the economy.  John's record of proposing huge new government programs, opposing tax cuts, pushing amnesty, and supporting bailouts should concern every Arizonan and raise understandable concerns that he will revert to his liberal maverick ways once the election is over,” Hayworth said.
