Schweikert: Exposing Harry Mitchell's real record

Harry Mitchell: NOT Working for Us.
Harry Claims:Mitchell: NOT Honoring Our Veterans
The Facts:
Voted against exempting Veterans Affairs and military construction contracts from federal contracting laws that favor unions and increase costs. (Vote 561 August 1, 2008)

Voted for a motion that specifically calls for a hasty withdrawal of troops from Iraq, regardless of their progress in reducing violence and spreading democracy. (Vote 235, April 19, 2007)

Voted against a motion that would replace millions of dollars in earmarks with needed funds for military housing. (Vote 71 January 31, 2007)(This vote occurred on a motion to eliminate funding for these earmarks, such as the “Rain Forest in Iowa”, and instead spend this funding on military housing.)

Harry Claims:Mitchell: NOT Taking on BIG Oil
The Facts: Mitchell voted against lifting the ban on offshore oil and gas drilling. (Vote 553 June 26 2007)

Mitchell voted to raise taxes on the American manufacturing of gasoline, home heating oil, and natural gas, but exempt Venezuelan-owned Citgo from this tax increase. (Vote 83 February 27, 2008)

Mitchell voted to block consideration of a bill that would establish new refineries, allow energy exploration in ANWR and the Outer Continental Shelf, and provide incentives for alternative energies. (Vote 391 June 10, 2008)

Harry Claims:Mitchell: NOT Cutting Wasteful Spending
The Facts:
Mitchell voted against making permanent the child tax credit and marriage penalty relief. (Vote 83 Feb 27, 2008)

Mitchell voted repeatedly to block consideration of a bill that would make permanent the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts on income, marriage penalty, child tax credit, investments, death tax, etc. (Vote 186 April 15th 2008. Vote 192 April 16, 2008. Vote 194 April, 16, 2008

Mitchell voted in support of mandates that favor unions for government contracts, reduce opportunities for small businesses, and increase the cost to taxpayers. (Vote 712 July 24 2007)

Harry Claims:Mitchell: NOT Securing the College Dream
The Facts:
Opposed a motion that would amend a college student loan bill to concentrate the bill's interest rate reductions on low income borrowers and those serving in the military, which would result in savings that could be spent on deficit reduction or an increase in college grants for needy students). (Vote 31 January 17 2007)

Voted to allow convicted felons to receive student loan benefits (House Roll Call 29).

Harry Claims:Mitchell: NOT Ethics Reform

The Facts:
Mitchell voted to block a bill that would create a Joint Select Committee on Earmark Reform to review and report on how to fix Washington's mess of an earmark process (House Roll Call 32).

Mitchell voted to allow up to 54 secret earmarks to be airdropped into appropriations bills at the last minute, adding a half a trillion dollars in increased spending to these already massive bills House Roll Call 1044, 1061 and 1098.

Mitchell voted for a bill that had 9,000 earmarks in it. (Vote 1171 December 17, 2007)

Mitchell ratcheted up another broken promise as he put pet projects over protecting Americans' security when he voted against a measure that would have stripped all earmarks from a bill that was originally designed to enhance our nation's laws (House Roll Call 1125).

Harry consistently sells his votes for campaign contributions. Back in 2007 Rep. Mitchell brought back to Arizona a $4,000,000 earmark and as a result received $48,700 in campaign contributions from those that benefited from the earmark. David Schweikert believes that this form of "Soft Corruption" needs to come to an end. (Read The Truth)

Harry Claims:Mitchell: NOT Growing Arizona's Economy
The Facts:
The truth is Mitchell's predecessor J.D. Hayworth is the one that secured this tax credit. Mitchell should not take credit for sombody else's work. (Read The Truth)

David supports solar as well, and further understands that solar power is not a solitary panacea for economic or energy woes. We must have a COMPREHENSIVE plan that interfaces both energy security and economic development.
