1) Alarmed by the Polls? Don't Be!

Even with early balloting, not a single vote will be counted until November 4th. That means no one knows what the outcome of the election will be - whether it's at the state or federal level. Campaigns are spending thousands and even millions of dollars on polling, sometimes with the express purpose of convincing people that the race is over and they shouldn't bother voting. It can be tough not to be psyched out by these mind games.

First, don't forget Who is in control. Psalm 47:8 reminds us: "God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne." God doesn't fall off the throne when a new poll is released. As we are bombarded by information about which candidates are projected to win or how certain groups are voting, let's take time to pray instead of becoming anxious. Join us on November 2 at the Solemn Prayer Assemblies in Phoenix, Tucson, or Flagstaff.

Second, take action. Volunteer to make phone calls or walk neighborhoods for Prop 102 or for a legislative candidate. And, whether you're encouraged or discouraged by the polls you read about in the media, it is still imperative that you vote. Treat your vote as if it will decide the election. If you give up and start thinking your vote doesn't matter, you are throwing away your opportunity to have a voice in our government. As the saying goes, bad leaders are elected by good people who don't vote. Remember, Prop 102 could be decided by a handful of votes, and key races for the Arizona Senate and House may well depend on 10, 20, or 50 votes.

So, don't lose heart, don't grow weary, and don't give up.

2) Join Us for Dinner with Hugh Hewitt

You see him on CNN and Fox News; you listen to him on the radio and read his books. Now, don't miss this opportunity to hear Hugh Hewitt in person at our fall dinner event, "The Election Is Over - Now What?" on Tuesday, November 11, at the Arizona Biltmore Resort. Hugh will be giving his take on the national elections, while I share my heart about the policy scene here in Arizona. You don't want to miss this insider analysis of the 2008 election and its impact on your family! Visit azpolicy.org for more information about tickets and sponsorship opportunities.

3) Tomorrow: Last Day to Request Early Ballots

If you'd like to take advantage of the convenience of early balloting, you need to request your early ballot by tomorrow, October 24. You can request an early ballot by contacting your county recorder. Once you receive your ballot, check out VoteSmartAz.org for information on where the candidates stand on issues that matter to you. Then, vote right away (make sure you vote YES on Prop 102), and send your ballot in.
