Robert Robb: Plead to the Lead a good policy

I know that candidates need every dime they can raise when challenging an incumbent, particularly one with a decisive registration advantage. Still, it was dumb of Democratic County attorney candidate Tim Nelson to accept contributions from well-known criminal-defense lawyers.

For the most part, I think it's a good policy. The criminal-justice system shouldn't be a bargaining bazaar. And when a plea bargain results in the dismissal of the most serious charges, the prosecutor is substituting his judgment for that of the Legislature about condign punishment for specific acts.
