(1) We're Baaaack!

After a taking a break for the month of August, Family Facts is back! I hope your summer has been a blessed one!

(2) Choose Life License Plates!

Last week we received notice that the Choose Life license plate case has been scheduled for oral arguments in front of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco on October 15. Two years ago the Federal District Court of Arizona ruled against the Arizona Life Coalition in its lawsuit against the state's License Plate Commission. The commission had denied the coalition's request to produce "Choose Life" plates because their message was deemed to be "offensive." The coalition had previously issued custom license plates for a number of other non-profit organizations. The Arizona Life Coalition is represented by CAP's General Counsel, Peter Gentala, and by our friends at the Alliance Defense Fund. Please keep Peter and the rest of Arizona Life Coalition's legal team in your prayers as they prepare for this next phase of litigation.

(3) Maricopa County to Defend Sex Club Law!

Our own Peter Gentala was the first to break the story about the City of Tempe's failure to defend Arizona's new statute in his August 23 AzPolicyBlog post. He was also was first to write about Federal District Court Judge Frederick Martone's stinging rebuke of Tempe's behavior in the case in attempting to keep the details of the settlement secret from Tempe taxpayers by asking to have the settlement sealed by the court. Fortunately, the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, under the leadership of Andrew Thomas, has announced its intention to step in and defend the state law in question, which prevents new sex clubs from locating within 1,320 feet of churches, schools, and parks. The law, which passed overwhelmingly in both the Arizona House of Representatives and Senate, was drafted with the assistance of The Center for Arizona Policy. CAP applauds the Maricopa County Attorney's Office and Timothy La Sota, Andrew Thomas' Special Assistant, for their willingness to give this law the wholehearted and meaningful defense in court that it deserves.

(4) Right to Life Conference This Week!
