Sheriff Joe reports 20% of inmates are illegal immigrants

Twenty percent of the 10,000 inmates now in Maricopa County jails are illegal immigrants, according to Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Arpaio said Monday there are roughly 2,000 illegal immigrants in his jails with 70 percent of them held on felony charges. The MCSO said the drug offense, forgery, kidnapping, DUI and aggravated assault are the most common reasons illegals are arrested in the Valley.

Considering illegal immigrants make up around 8% of the population, this is evidence they are committing crimes at more than twice the rate of others. (According to the most recent U.S. census, Arizona has a little over 6 million residents, and according to this article, Arizona until a few months ago had 500,000 illegal immigrants)
