Countdown: 42 Days Until Election Day

Yes, it's only a short six weeks from today until our nation elects a new President and our state elects a new state legislature, new congressional representatives, and decides to grant constitutional protection to the definition of marriage as the union of one man and one woman. Take time to assess how you will spend these next six weeks. Consider the following:

(1) 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting

Join us and fellow believers nationwide for 40 days of prayer and fasting leading up to Election Day, starting this Thursday, September 24. Consider how you and your family can participate as we seek God's will and guidance for this election through focused prayer and fasting.
CAP's Pastor Frank Carpenter shares this about fasting: Fasting can take many forms. Most commonly we think of fasting as abstaining from food. Many in Scripture abstained completely from all food and water during their fasts. Some may choose to abstain from breakfast during these 40 days, others may choose to abstain from their favorite food, or coffee, or desserts. Still others may choose to not watch television or to abstain from another favorite activity. The spiritual idea behind the fast is to sacrificially abstain from something in order to devote time to be with the Lord. As you consider a dedicated time of prayer and fasting, consider these Scriptures: Exodus 34:28; 2 Chron. 20:3; Jonah 3:5; Matt. 6:16-18; Acts 13:2-3; Acts 14:23.

(2) Watch the Saddleback Civil Forum

Pastor Rick Warren hosted this forum in late August, and it provides a fascinating, informative look at how the two major presidential candidates answered key questions about their character, issue positions, and vision. Read the transcript at www.rickwarrennews.com, or watch the video of the Forum at www.saddlebackcivilforum.com.

(3) Attend Saturday's Standing for Truth Conference

Join us for this fast-paced, high-impact event featuring David Barton, sponsored by CAP in partnership with Family Research Council and Alliance Defense Fund. Join us as we rally together to run the race set before us leading up to Election Day. Find out the why and how of standing for what's right in our state. Advanced reservations are closed, but you are welcome to join us by registering at the door starting at 8:00 a.m. For details, visit azpolicy.org.

(4) Mark Your Calendar

Plan now to join with us in a solemn prayer assembly on Sunday, November 2, at 4:00 p.m. at the State Capitol. Similar events are being considered for Flagstaff and Tucson.
