National health care reform has prompted intense debates in the U.S. Congress as well as at many kitchen tables around the country. As we continue to discuss the future of health care in America , I encourage everyone to voice their thoughts on the legislation under consideration.
I would like to hear your recommendations on how we can improve health care in America . Your input will play a vital role as I consider each and every provision in this legislation.

Unfortunately I saw this too late to make it to the meeting. I hope it didn't degenerate into the kind of shameful scene that we've seen on the news in recent weeks.
As far as I can tell, there is one major opponent to healthcare reform- the one that stands to lose the most money, specifically the private health insurance companies.
It should be obvious to anyone with a brain that putting insurance companies in charge of health care as has happened over the last 50 years or so is a recipe for disaster. Insurance companies make money by taking in and investing money from subscribers and by NOT paying money out for claims. The whole system of private health insurance exists to prevent delivery of health care.
Those who claim the government must grow larger to manage a single-payer system are right. But I would prefer a larger government bureaucracy tasked with making sure health care is delivered to the massive private organization the insurance companies have created to ensure that health care is NOT delivered. I would also prefer to pay higher taxes to such an organization that to pay exorbitant premiums to a private insurer.
If nothing else a government system would bring some competition to the market for health insurance. That can't be bad. Think about it.
The people who have been trying to prevent public discussion of the proposed reforms should be ashamed of themselves. They claim to want democracy and free markets but they stand in the way of open discussion of the options. Some people are easily manipulated.
The Democrats are trying to get people to believe this issue is about reform of the big bad insurance companies. Nothing is further from the truth. This is about goverment take over of private industry. Sure, there can be some changes made in the current way we provide healthcare. These changes would result in millions in savings. 1. Stop providing care to illegal immigrants. We should provide stabilization of their health condition and then transfer them back home. They would also be billed for the care provided here in the US. 2. Allow emergency rooms to NOT treat the people who abuse this service for sniffles, sneezes, and diarrhea. Triage them and have them followup with a doctor or clinic the next day. We can not afford to treat non urgent conditions with the high cost of an ER. 3. Reduce frivious law suites so MD's can stop practicing defensive medicine. The very last thing we need to do is to have the government take over ANY private companies. They have no right to do this and as an American citizen, I have the right to say NO, YOU WILL NOT DO THIS TO MY COUNTRY.

What private industry are you talking about? Certainly not healthcare! Government has been involved in every aspect of healthcare for years.
Think about it. Government subsidizes pharmaceutical research, elderly care, hospital emergency care, education of doctors, medical research and teaching universities, care for the poor, care for people injured at work, employers and employees insurance (through tax exemptions), care for children, payment to doctors. And on and on and on.
The biggest red herring in healthcare reform is and has always been "leave the private free market alone." When the fact is there has never been a true free market in any aspect of healthcare.
