AZ Right to Life Life Times

Greetings!
Welcome to the August 2009 Edition of the Arizona Right to Life "Life Times." For most of us, the summer should be a time for resting, vacationing and taking a leisurely pace. While hopefully this is true for all of us in our personal lives, the fight for life has done anything but slow down, demanding the full attention and support of each one of us. This issue is packed full of time-sensitive information on important events and legislation, so take just a brief break from what we hope is your vacation to read the vital information we have included for you.
Arizona Right to Life Mourns Sudden Passing of With Child Executive Director Kim Schmidt

With Child Executive Director Kim Schmidt and FamilyArizona Right to Life is grieved to inform you that Kim Schmidt, Executive Director of the Arizona pregnancy-care clinic With Child Center, passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 2, after a head-on automobile collision. Kim has been a long time friend of Arizona Right to Life and has labored in the Pro-Life movement for many years. Kim's lifetime of service was so robust that in September 2008, she was honored at the White House by President Bush with the prestigious lifetime Volunteer Service Award. Kim leaves behind her husband and four children. Kim was most recently featured in our February 2009 Life Times and at our January Rally to honor a life-saving adoption she had helped facilitate.

A memorial service will be held in Kim's honor this Friday, August 7th at Northwest Community Church, located at 16615 N 43rd Avenue, in Phoenix (map). A viewing will be held at 3:00pm. The service will begin at 4:00pm and a reception will follow immediately thereafter. The viewing, service and reception are open to the public.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memoriums be sent to the Kimberly Schmidt Memorial Fund at With Child Pregnancy Center. To donate, contact With Child at 602-788-5434.

Dr. John Mark Reynolds Returns to AZRTL Conference for Presentation on Mastering the New Media
The low-down on blogging, social networking, and more!

Web 2.0 IconsIn our not-too-distant past, if one was in the position to find an answer to a question, the person "researched" it or "looked it up" or "searched" for the answer. Almost overnight, those verbs were replaced and now we "Google" things. But as if one made-up word was not enough, instead of "talking" or "sharing," now we "Tweet," we "Blog," we "Text," we "Podcast," we "Youtube" and we "Facebook" things. But what does it all mean? And how can it help the Pro-Life movement? Audience favorite Dr. John Mark Reynolds of Biola University returns to our conference this year. He will present a forward-thinking presentation on harnessing the power of these free, new-media outlets to propel the Pro-Life Message beyond the reach and censorship of traditional media that once held virtually all the control in information dissemination. For clips from Dr. Reynolds' 2005 conference presentation, click here. For more information on Dr. Reynolds and all of our other terrific Conference Speakers, click here.
Join 67,000+ Other Americans to Stop the Abortion Mandate!

Urgent Notice Washington Liberals have tirelessly tried to slip mandated abortion coverage into current health care bill proposals, which would force Americans to support abortion on demand. It's ironic that a movement that prides itself on choice and that for 35+ years has rejected any notion of the "government telling women what to do with their bodies" would now switch tactics and eliminate any choice on the part of the American consumer, and in fact give the government full power to dictate that our dollars now be spent on life-ending procedures. Those in charge of this legislation must also realize this irony because they have tried to disguise this issue in a cloud of double-talk, deception and false promises. Make no mistake; there is no "compromise" or "common ground" in the new legislation.

Every single pro-life amendment to the proposed Health Care Reform Legislation has been defeated.

What remains is HB 3200, a 1017 page document that is dangerously ambiguous on the issue of abortion. Yet generic "family-planning" language is included and without a prohibition of the inclusion of abortion, abortion could easily be included in this sweeping but vague term. When asked whether or not he could assure Americans that this bill would not allow for taxpayer funds to be directed toward abortion services, White House Budget Director Peter R. Orszag replied with "I am not prepared to say explicitly that right now." Even the usually liberal NY Times recognizes the threat that HB 3200 poses in its current state to the American Taxpayer who opposes abortion.

Arizona Right to Life supports the Petition efforts of the ACLJ, and in order to present a unified majority, strongly urges its members to sign the ACLJ's petition to explicitly remove abortion from Mandatory Coverage provisions. Contact your Senators and Representatives and urge them to vote "no" on any measures that include Mandatory Abortion Coverage provisions.
Historic Cooperative Presentation Webcast Now Available in Streaming Audio and Download

Leaders of 19 of the strongest Pro-Life organizations in the country have realized that in order to defeat the radical pro-abortion efforts of the current administration, we must work together to present a united front. Right to Life was represented in the July 23rd "Stop the Abortion Mandate Webcast" by National Right to Life Committee Legislative Director Douglas Johnson. He was joined by other Arizona Right to Life friends Father Frank Pavone, David Bereit, Jim Sedlak and Kristen Day--all of whom have previously spoken at Arizona Right to Life Conferences. Together with 14 other pro-life leaders, they presented in an educational webcast that reached an audience of over 36,000 people. If you missed the initial broadcast, you can now listen to the broadcast in streaming audio or download the file for your mp3 player by clicking here.

Given that over 20% of the representatives selected for this event have previously spoken at Arizona Right to Life Conferences, you'll want to be sure that you attend this year's Conference to seize the opportunity to meet more current and rising leaders of the movement!
