The Tribune ran an article recently with Sheriff Arpaio's response to accusations that crime in Maricopa County unincorporated areas is increasing. (Crime has been decreasing over the past couple of years within the cities located in Maricopa County) According to the Sheriff's figures, violent crime has decreased by 10% since last year. This seems more believable, considering around 11% of the illegal immigrants have fled the state. Any drop in population is going to correlate with a drop in crime.
The sheriff also reported receiving 27% fewer life-threatening emergency calls. Although FBI statistics reveal that certain violent crimes increased, overall they decreased, with rapes decreasing by 57%.
