Yet another reason why Arizona's Civil Rights Initiative needs to be passed to ban racial preferences. According to author Peter Schmidt, affirmative action policies have had the opposite effect - helping rich whites, not poor minorities. Affirmative action is a feel-good idea that hasn't worked and has served to stigmatize, marginalize, and ghettoize minorities.
