CAP: Teacher Alert

September 4, 2009 Teacher Alert! Yes, I'm back after a summer break and fired up about Arizona teachers working with the state and nation's largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood. Promoted this week by the Arizona Democrat Party, Planned Parenthood and the Arizona Education Association are conducting training seminars for "progressive" individuals. The two organizations specifically are targeting Maricopa, Coconino, Mohave, and Yavapai Counties for grassroots organizing. The obvious intent is to elect pro-abortion candidates who also oppose parental choice in education. As a former teacher wrote me yesterday, this is an embarrassment to educators that sullies the reputation of all. I wonder how teachers feel about their union teaming up with one political party and an extreme pro-abortion organization. AEA's president yesterday said teachers have not expressed concerns about funding the program. Say it isn't so! If you are a teacher, I encourage you to take back your profession from this radical element. Call your local AEA representative today and voice your opinion! Defending and Promoting School Choice In the past few weeks, school choice opponents and their media allies have launched a vicious attack on Arizona's scholarship tax credit program that provides scholarships for close to 30,000 children to attend the schools chosen by their parents. The truth opponents conveniently omit is that these programs save the state money, leaving more money - not less - for public education. The programs also benefit children and parents by allowing parents to choose schools that are best meeting their children's needs - especially the many families who are making financial sacrifices for their children's education during these difficult economic times. Despite these media allegations about the school choice program, there is not a school choice scandal in our state. Arizona's school choice programs remain vibrant and effective.
