Second Suspect Deported Three Times

Two illegal immigrants have been indicted on armed robbery, theft, and aggravated assault charges, County Attorney Andrew Thomas announced today. One suspect told police he committed the robberies after he lost his job because of Arizona’s new employer sanctions law. The second suspect admits to being deported from the United States three times.

Ruben Aragon Parra (DOB 4/2/88) and Salvador Antonio Monreal-Camargo are accused of stealing a truck on September 13, 2007 and then later robbing a man in a park. The second victim chased the suspects in his own vehicle. The victim then grabbed a shovel and started pounding on the windshield of the stolen truck in which the suspects were traveling.

According to a Phoenix police report, Parra said he needed money because he had been out of work since he was laid off from his landscaping job because his former employer was afraid of the new employer sanctions law. Police reports also show Monreal-Camargo (DOB 9/3/83) told police he first entered the United States illegally seven years ago and had been deported three times before he came back to the United States and allegedly victimized two people. A third suspect, Guillermo Garcia (DOB2/24/73), who is also an illegal immigrant, is accused of unlawfully using a stolen vehicle.

County Attorney Andrew Thomas commented, “These crimes remind us once again why a porous border threatens the safety and well-being of the people of Arizona.”
