AZRTL: Governor Brewer Signs Pro-Life Reporting Requirements

Governor Brewer Signs Pro-Life Reporting Requirements

On Tuesday, April 20th Governor Jan Brewer signed into a law a key piece of pro-life legislation requiring accurate abortion statistics be recorded  throughout Arizona and reported.  The bill, SB 1304 sponsored by Glendale Senator Linda Gray, mandates the reporting of infromation of individual abortions including the circumstances around them. The information gives policymakers and pro-life advocates more statistical information on abortions performed in the state, and the information is also used by crisis pregnancy center to better serve the needs of women.  The bill also requires that the number of times judges bypass the parental notification requirement be recorded and reported.  The indivudual reports will remain confidential, but the state will be required to issue an annual report on abortions and the other information collected.

Bill Prohibiting Tax-Payer Funded Abortion Coverage Sent to Governor's Desk

In a 17-11 Vote the Arizona State Senate voted to pass SB 1305, a bill that would stop the use of tax dollars, or any other public money, to fund abortion insurance coverage. The legislation, sponsored by Glendale Senator Linda Gray, would also opt Arizona out of abortion funding through the state insurance exchange in the new healthcare plan passed by the federal government.  The bill was sent to the Governor's desk on April 20th, where she has five legislative days to sign it into law, veto it, or allow it to pass without her signature.

Arizona Right to Life is Thankful to Governor Brewer for Her Support and Signature of Pro-Life legislation

With the signature of SB 1304 and the expected signature of SB 1305, Governor Brewer has shown her committed support of advancing the Pro-Life agenda and protecting Arizona's unborn children.  Be sure to express your support and thanks of these bills, and encourage her to continue her support in the future.

Goldwater Institute: Glendale needs to protect taxpayers when considering Coyotes' future

Glendale City Council members could use a cold splash of water - perhaps with the hockey ice from Jobing.com Arena - if they finalize a deal with potential new Phoenix Coyotes team owner Jerry Reinsdorf. Council members signed a non-binding agreement earlier this month to allow Reinsdorf to sell the team in five years if it doesn't turn a profit. Why does that matter? Because the deal also potentially requires city taxpayers to pony up $165 million for the private sports franchise. It's a lose-lose for taxpayers and hockey fans alike.

HAYWORTH DELIVERS OVER 11,000 SIGNATURES TO SECRETARY OF STATE FOR PLACE ON BALLOT
Phoenix, AZ (Monday, April 26) - U.S. Senate Candidate J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) today delivered more than 11,000 signatures of Arizona voters who are supporting his campaign to the Secretary of State.

"In just a matter of two and a half months, people flocked to our campaign, put their names on the line and I am humbled by their overwhelming support," Hayworth said.

A total of 11,483 people from all 15 counties signed petitions allowing Hayworth to be on the ballot.

"The people of Arizona deserve to see us squaring off on the issues of the day," Hayworth said. "I'm ready. I'm on the ballot. Senator McCain needs to stop hiding behind excuses and step up to the podium and debate."

The state requires a total of 5,609 signatures from across the state, and a candidate must only qualify in three counties in order to be placed on the ballot.

"Senator McCain has dodged each and every debate challenge I have made, saying he would wait until I was a qualified candidate," Hayworth said. "Well, there is no place left to hide, no excuse left to use.

"Let the debates begin now. I have laid out a plan for a series of debates and John McCain needs to face me and the voters of Arizona as soon as possible."

Hayworth has proposed debates on May 22 in Kingman and on June 2 in Coolidge.

Fox News Channel, MSNBC, and other national news organizations have contacted the campaigns asking to host debates. Hayworth's campaign has accepted every offer.

David Schweikert is first Congressional candidate in AZ to turn in signature petitions!

JD Hayworth announces he's collected enough signatures to qualify for Senate ballot

With his beautiful wife Miss Mary standing next to him and a large group of supporters behind him, JD Hayworth announced today at at press conference at the Arizona State Capitol that he had collected over 11,000 signatures, easily enough to qualify for the ballot. Now that he is "official," he repeated his request to McCain to debate. According to the debate clock on JD's website, it has now been 60 days since he asked McCain to debate. McCain hasn't responded, other than to say he was waiting until JD collected enough signatures to be certified. That sounds fishy to JD, who noted that McCain started running negative ads against him back when he was still a broadcaster in January, he sure acted like he was a legitimate candidate back then.

A reporter asked JD about dealing with controversial issues like SB1070. JD responded and said that a bill he co-sponsored back when he was in Congress would have done the same thing, but where was McCain then? Introducing an amnesty bill instead. JD said that Arizona should never feel the need to apologize for enforcing the law.

Another reporter asked about new County Attorney Rick Romley's recent statement that SB1070 is tearing apart the state. JD said that isn't accurate, since over 70% of Arizonans support the bill. It would be more accurate to describe it as a "vigorous debate."

Thomas Faults 4 Democrat AG Opponents For Opposing SB1070; Pledges Aggressive Defense In Court

Former Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas ONLY Attorney General Candidate Supporting Senate Bill 1070; Pledging Aggressive Defense Of Law

PHOENIX, ARIZONA April 26, 2010. There are five candidates for Arizona Attorney General but only one supports SB 1070, helped author it and will enthusiastically defend it in court.

"I am effectively running against four Democrats. The Republican in name only, Tom Horne, does not support this bill and it would be disingenuous for him to suggest he does while simultaneously advocating amnesty and citizenship for illegal immigrants," Thomas said.

"SB 1070 will be fiercely challenged in the courts. It is imperative for Arizona to have an Attorney General that actually supports enforcingimmigration law," he said.

Previously, Tom Horne proposed his own plan to give amnesty and citizenship to illegal immigrants. The East Valley Tribune reported on February 14, 2007 that Horne has a “plan” to grant American citizenship to illegal immigrants who meet certain educational requirements.  Similar positions for the other three liberals in the race are well documented.

“Tom Horne's amnesty plan for illegal immigrants is a slap in the face to law abiding people around the world who have applied for visas and waited in line to immigrate to America legally,” Thomas said.

“Many families have sacrificed and been patient in their plans to immigrate to America so that they could do so the right way, procuring a visa and entering legally.”

During Thomas' time in office, crime rates plummeted.  The 19 percent drop is more than twice the national rate of decline, in despite of an 11 percent increase in the county's population during that time.  The illegal immigrant population has dropped by anywhere from 18 percent (Dept. of Homeland Security estimate) to 30 percent (Center for Immigration Studies estimate). Like the fall in crime rates, this dramatic decline in illegal immigration is far greater than the average in the rest of the nation.

Thomas has a track record of successfully defending illegal immigration crackdowns in our courts, including his successful efforts to prosecute illegal immigrants for conspiring to violate the state's human-smuggling law and to defend Prop 200's voter ID requirements and the employer-sanctions law, which he defended along with the Attorney General's Office.

If elected Attorney General Thomas has pledged to expand that office's prosecutions of illegal immigrants under the state's human smuggling laws. The office is not currently pursuing such prosecutions.

Thomas’ office successfully prosecuted the Baseline Killer and Serial Shooting suspects.  During his tenure he has pushed for harsher penalties against child predators and, more recently, launched an innovative program to restore Gila River habitat and pursue charges against environmental pollution there.

Thomas is married with four children.  He is a graduate of Harvard Law School.  Prior to serving as Maricopa County Attorney, Thomas served as an assistant attorney general for Arizona, deputy counsel and criminal justice policy advisor to the Governor, special assistant to the Director of the Arizona Department of Corrections, and a deputy county attorney.

AFP & Tea Party Patriots of Scottsdale Town Hall on healthcare this Thursday

What Has Harry Mitchell Done to Our Health Care?
…and What Can YOU Do About It?
Dear Valley Taxpayer:

AFP Arizona , the Arizona Health Care Freedom Act, and the Tea Party Patriots of Scottsdale invite you to attend a special Health Care Town Hall this coming Thursday, April 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the auditorium at Saguaro High School, 6250 N. 82nd Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85250 (NE of McDonald and Hayden).
Map: http://www.susd.org/DISTRICT/facilities/maps/0607HS.pdf
At the town hall, health care policy expert Dr. Eric Novack will answer your questions and explain what passage by Congress of the health care “reform” legislation will mean for you as an insurance consumer, as a patient, and as a taxpayer. Over the coming months and years, as really bad things begin happening in the American health care system, citizen activists will need to know exactly WHY those things are happening—otherwise, future Congresses will have great difficulty fixing the messes that Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and CD5 Congressman Harry Mitchell are imposing on the country.
Dr. Novack is not only one of the nation’s foremost experts on health care policy: he is also the architect of the Arizona Health Care Freedom Act, which will be on the November 2 state ballot. Dr. Novack will explain the importance of the Act, not just to patients and health insurance consumers in Arizona, but to the future of health care freedom in America as a whole.
RSVP today at tjenney@afphq.org , so that we can get a good attendance count. You should also contact the Arizona Health Care Freedom Act at http://azhealthcarefreedom.com/ to find out what you can do to help pass this important ballot proposition.
To invest in AFP’s grassroots efforts, please make your check payable to “Americans for Prosperity,” with “ Arizona” in the memo line, and mail the check to:

CAP: Governor Signs Pro-Life Bill Into Law!

On Wednesday, Governor Brewer signed into law SB 1304 - Abortion Reporting Requirements. For too long, our state has had inaccurate and incomplete abortion statistics. This new law - which will go into effect 90 days after the legislative session ends - will ensure that abortion statistics are accurately reported and kept in our state. This will enable policymakers and pro-life advocates to obtain a more complete assessment of abortion in Arizona and allow pregnancy resource centers and to better serve the needs of Arizona women.

Make Your Voice Count!

There is still time to respond to CAP's Wednesday Action Alert on SB 1309 - Parental Rights. Encourage your two state representatives to vote YES in support of the rights of parents to direct the upbringing and education of their children.

CAP Bills Passing Legislature!

This week a few more CAP-supported bills moved to final passage in the Legislature and are awaiting approval from the Governor. The following bills passed the legislature this week:
  • SB 1274 - Scholarship Tax Credits Donations Deadline. Allows people to donate to school tuition organizations before April 15 and take the credit for the previous tax year.
  • SB 1305 - Prohibition on Taxpayer-Funded Abortion Coverage. Ensures that tax dollars are not used for abortion insurance coverage. Also opts Arizona out of funding abortions through the state insurance exchange in the new federal healthcare program.
  • SB 1280 - University Scholarship Equity. Ensures that homeschool students receive equal access to public university scholarships.
  • One other bill received a final vote in the Senate this week and just needs a final vote from the House before going to the Governor:
  • HB 2596 - Religious Freedom Land Use. Protects churches and religious institutions from discriminatory zoning and land use laws.

Specific Pornography Domain Wouldn't Make Internet Safer

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is responsible for the allocation of domain names and IP addresses. ICANN is again considering establishing a .XXX domain for pornography websites. If ICANN does create a .XXX domain for pornographic sites, this would significantly increase not only the amount of pornography available on the internet, but also the availability of porn to both children and adults. Video: JD Hayworth responds to John McCain's election year conversion on Border Security

"One Senator, one man, so many different positions. What a difference a campaign makes!"

Saturday, April 24, 2010

JD Hayworth thanks you - we easily hit $100k tonight, our goal to buy TV & radio ads to defeat John McCain!

By only 7pm tonight, we surpassed our midnight goal of another $100k needed to buy TV and radio ads to beat John McCain. McCain is running ads claiming that he is Arizona's last line of defense from Obama's pork barrel spending - yet McCain voted for several of the billion dollar pork bailouts, obviously due to those banks being the top 20 contributors to his campaign! You know the truth. Thank you for your contribution, and please consider helping us contribute a little bit, however small, before the end of the month. The more we raise, the more ads we can buy to counter the constant barrage of ads on TV and radio coming from McCain.Do you want a consistent conservative like JD, with a 98% lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union throughout his 12 years in Congress, or a McCain Republican, whose rating dropped to a new low of 63% last year?

Are we having fun this campaign season or what?

Best parking spot in the lot at the gun show today. Email me at azpoliticalintel-at-yahoo.com if you want to help us collect signatures for Thomas, JD Hayworth, and Bill Montgomery for County Attorney tomorrow (Sunday) at the gun show.

HAYWORTH CHALLENGES McCAIN ON PHOENIX MAYORS LAWSUIT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEWS RELEASE

HAYWORTH CHALLENGES McCAIN TO REPUDIATE PHOENIX MAYOR'S THREAT TO SUE OVER NEW IMMIGRATION LAW
(Phoenix) -U.S. Senate Candidate J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) today challenged Sen. John McCain to repudiate Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon's threat to sue the state to halt the toughest law in the nation against illegal aliens.

"Mayor Gordon is a long-time John McCain supporter. Not only has he endorsed Sen. McCain for Senate this year, he endorsed him when he ran for President in 2008," Hayworth said. "And now he is threatening to sue the state to stop illegal aliens coming into Arizona.

"If John McCain truly supports the bill, he needs to repudiate and denounce the Mayor's position and stand up for Arizona instead of standing by his friend and supporter who is out touch with the people of this state," Hayworth said.

Mayor Gordon will ask the City Council on Tuesday to consider suing the state on grounds the new illegal immigration crack-down is "unconstitutional" and "unenforceable."

The Mayor said: "I've scheduled an item on the agenda for Tuesday to ask the council to direct the city attorney to draft, to prepare a lawsuit asking for an injunction on this law and challenging it on constitutional grounds."

The new law requires police officers to make a reasonable attempt to determine the immigration status of a person if there is suspicion that the person is in the United States illegally.

"The Mayor and Sen. McCain have been political allies for decades and now it is time for John McCain to pick sides," Hayworth said. "Sen. McCain needs to tell his political buddy to stop his grand-standing against a law we need or John McCain should publically re-embrace his prior pro-amnesty position."

AZ Anti-Illegal Immigration Leader Andrew Thomas Applauds Governor Brewer For Signing Controversial Senate Bill 1070

Former Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas Applauds Governor Brewer for Signing Senate Bill 1070
PHOENIX, ARIZONA APRIL 23, 2010.  Former Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas applauds Governor Jan Brewer for signing Senate Bill 1070 earlier today.
Thomas is currently campaigning for Arizona Attorney General.

While in office Thomas supported and advised the legislature about the legislation.
“This will give state and local law enforcement officials important new tools for the fight against illegal immigration.  I strongly support its passage and look forward to defending the law in court next year should I be elected Attorney General,” Thomas said.
During Thomas' time in office, crime rates have plummeted.  The 19 percent drop is more than twice the national rate of decline, and in despite of an 11 percent increase in the county's population during that time.
Thomas’ office successfully prosecuted the Baseline Killer and Serial Shooting suspects.  During his tenure he has pushed for harsher penalties against child predators and, more recently, launched an innovative program to restore Gila River habitat and pursue charges against environmental pollution there.  Thomas is in favor of the death penalty and has been criticized by defense lawyers for his toughplea bargain policies.  He has tackled tough public corruption cases and led innovative programs to ensure better food safety and crack down on graffiti and cruelty to animals
